Going a bit more cruelty free has been a goal of mine for a while now. I just haven’t actually plucked up the courage to do it. So now #Veganuary has come around I can’t really think of any excuses, I just need to dive in.
I know they say take baby steps when transitioning as it is hard so I am fully prepared to slip up over the next month but I’m going to try my very hardest.
I love the idea of a plant based diet, I always scroll through Pinterest and instagram and see some many delicious meals which are vegan. Generally I’m more attracted to a mushroom wellington than I am a steak…
I often chat about veganism with a colleague. She’s been doing it years and is a pro at it now. We share good vegan finds and she’s always giving me handy tips! She even got me the Deliciously Ella cook book for my birthday. Without her I don’t think I would be ready to commit to this.
Saying that, I currently eat very little meat, it’s mainly chicken, occasionally some mince. So cutting meat out of my diet will be easy, I could be veggie in a heartbeat. The thing I’m going to struggle with is my sweet tooth! Chocolate is life and I’m yet to find a good substitute. Vegan chocolate just isn’t as creamy and smooth, it has a weird after taste! I also adore pick n mix and that obviously contains gelatin.
I have recently found a few sweeties that are vegan, like the fizzy Percy pig tails from M&S and strawberry laces from Aldi. So those will deffo be a staple in my diet.
There’s a couple of things that aren’t vegan that I will continue to use, for example my shampoo and condition. Once they’re empty though, they will be replaced with a crudely free version. I know Superdrug have some great options. Also a couple of makeup bits. I have a lot of urban decay and makeup revolution so I’ll lean towards those by my holy grail brow pencil isn’t cruelty free!
So as of today January 1st 2019, I’m Vegan. Let’s do this!
